While some exotic fruits and vegetables must be sourced from tropical regions, many colorful, special produce can be found closer to home.

Our Saborichi Soils® selection includes a range of open-field roots and tubers, such as carrots, beetroots, rettich, parsnips and potatoes in many colors and shapes.

Beetroots are freshly sweet with a typical earthy taste. Beetroots come in two varieties: summer beets and winter beets. Summer beets are smaller. Beetroots exists in numerous beautiful colours such as red, white, yellow and chioggia (white with pink circles).

Parsnips

Parsnip is a delicious, firm carrot. The taste of parsnip is a true delicacy. Intense, aromatic and sweet. Parsnip has a flavour which resembles a combination of fennel and carrot. Parsnips are originally from the Mediterranean region. The Romans brought this root to the North of Europe. As a result, production increased in volume in the colder regions of Europe.

Horned melon, also known as kiwano, is an exotic relative of cucumber and melon. Its spiky skin not only gives it a striking appearance but also explains its name. Inside this eye-catching fruit are small chambers filled with jelly-like green seeds. These are edible and offer a surprisingly fresh, tangy flavour – perfect for adding a tropical twist to your dish.
